Chrismate is Nehemie’s sister and her dream is to master many different crafts because she relates creativity and quality Haitian products with new opportunities for her family and community. She is a single mom and her only son, Robenchi, originally inspired her to work. Chrismate has started her own mini-restaurant, bought land, built homes, and supported her extended family with this job.
“I want the best opportunities for my son, so I’ve enrolled him in a highly esteemed elementary school in Carrefour (30 minutes from home). While he studies, I set up my work station in the courtyard of the school to make jewelry. The other parents often watch me with curiosity and I am proud to tell them I’m an artist who makes jewelry with Haitian materials for the world to admire. We need more companies creating beauty in Haiti to show the world how special our country is. I’m not just supporting myself with this job, I’m changing the world's perspective of Haiti!”
